EDUCATION and PRACTICE – THE FUTURE ARCHITECT Joint ACE-EAAE Symposium in coordination with CNAPPC

ACE General Assembly 1/17 - SPECIAL SESSION 6 May 2017
CASA DELL’ARCHITETTURA
Piazza Manfredo Fanti, 47, 00185 Roma, Italy

The Symposium took place all day on the 6th May 2017 and was dedicated to the relationship of architectural education and the practise of architecture. How do we educate our young professionals and for what do we prepare them? If the very nature of architectural practice is rapidly changing, how should adapt to the "ne^w reality"? What is the future of profession and what can contemporary practising architects and educators do to influence the future development of the discipline? What does ever-expanding globalisation mean for the relevance, resilience, responsibility and role of architects?

Distinguished and renowned speakers from the world of academia and the profession shared their views on the ways we teach and practice architecture today, as well as suggest paths to take us to the future.

POINTS RAISED

  1. Examine tendencies that illustrate different models and ideas of progressive architectural education, that are vital in responding to the ever changing needs of society. Examples and legislation will help to highlight the problems.

  2. Touch on the relationship between Green and Business. How can the architect can be initiator and advocate for responsible practice

  3. Internationalisation – what it means in theory and what it means in practice and how are the universities and the profession coping?

  4. How is technology shaping education? How is technology shaping the profession?

  5. Do we need to recreate the Ideal Architect? Will he/she coordinate? Innovate? Lead or follow? What are the market forces that are influencing us, negatively or positively? Can technology help us go back to a different form of public participation and urban democracy?

  6. Will constraint reignite creativity and bring with it a new social conscience?
