The Portuguese Order (OA) assures that deontological rules are observed by all OA members; OA seeks the promotion of Architecture at a National level; OA is an organization of Public Interest and recognized by the Portuguese State as the official representative of all Portuguese architects; It is structured through a National Board and two regional branches (sections).  The first one assures all institutional and representative activities and actions (responding to National legislation and the making of laws and decrees), while the second ones assure the communication and contact with all the member architects.

There is a program of undergoing professional practice regulated by law: Decree 66/2011, June 1, that regulate the traineeship in Portugal and Regulamento de Inscriçao – Ordem dos Arquitectos, that regulate the required traineeship under supervision in order to register as architect
