On 21 September, the ACE President Ruth Schagemann participated in the UIA - International Union of Architects off-site side event, in collaboration with UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme), the Brazilian Government, and with the support of the French Government. The event focused on discussing the critical role of architects and urbanplanners in leading the shift towards sustainable urbanisation as a driving force for housing our future in a greener, safer, and more affordable habitat.
'High-quality built environment is a driver of economic growth, social cohesion, climate resilience and cultural vibrancy. Architecture and Urbanisation play an important overarching role and they are more important than ever! We urgently need to adopt an attitude that favors the common good and quality of life and puts people and nature at the core of housing and urban developments'. stated ACE President Ruth Schagemann. She underlined the significance of sustainable urbanisation and the urgent need for planning tools, such as qualified land-use plans or integrated urban development concepts. 'These tools are essential for addressing cultural, social, economic and ecological development in our cities'.
