05.05.2021

On 23 April 2021 in the framework of its online General Assembly, the Architects’ Council of Europe presented its 2020 Annual Report & 2021 Outlook, summarising the organisation‘s activities for the previous year and plans for the future.

The ACE Annual Report gives the reader a snapshot of the many important activities, studies, publications, and events carried out together with the participation of the Creative Europe programme to raise the awareness of the value of architecture and architects in many ways.

'2020 was dominated by the first worldwide threat in 70 years and many of us have been thrown out of our usual comfortable lives. Many say this isn’t a single event, but the start of an era of pandemics. We all hope it isn’t, but we all have to contribute to the necessary changes to avoid such threats, as well as the other main threat we are facing: climate change. Both are connected and it might be that the pandemic is just a precursor for what is to come. The expansionist attitude of humanity, conquering more and more parts of the globe to its very last corners, together with deforestation, demolition of the last natural areas, decreasing in parallel the worlds of all other species, this attitude is a reason why such pandemics may increase. This is clearly related to the main reasons for manmade climate change. Both impact on our fields, the way we work and how and what we design.” georg pendl, ACE President
