BIM-SPEED launches EU BIM for Building Renovation Competition for construction professionals and students

The EU project BIM-SPEED invites architects, engineers, construction professional and students to participate in the “EU BIM for Building Renovation Competition”.

The challenge is to develop a renovation project that applies sustainable strategies that reduces the energy consumption and increases the comfort for the occupants while reducing the duration and cost of the overall renovation process. The multi-disciplinary teams must apply the Building Information Model (BIM) tools and methods developed by the partners, such as the BIM-Speed platform, tools for energy simulation, decision-making process, inhabitant’s involvement, existing building data collection and much more. The competition is free of charge for the participants and divided in two categories: professionals and students enrolled in an academic programme from an accredited educational institution.

JURY
The entries will be evaluated anonymously by five Jury members encompassing Chiara Dipasquale, Andras Ronai, Filippo Lodi, Tomi Henttinen and Olga Venetsianou. ACE is proud to have Mr. Henttinen and Ms Venetsianou, ACE delegates as jury members.

AWARDS
Awards For the professionals’ category the following prizes will be awarded to the top 3 finalists:

• EU wide exposure through BIM-SPEED dissemination channels and networks of the umbrella organisations covering the widest professional coverage

• Possibility to present the winning project to the Architects’ Council of Europe and its Member Organisations • Presentation of their project during EUSEW2022 and/or Sustainable Places 2022 This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 820553

• Participation and contribution at REHVA’s BIM task force of the Technology and Research Committee

• Featuring an article/interview on mainstream academic media (e.g. BIM today, BuildUP etc.)

• Free licenses to use BIM-SPEED platform and BIM tools


For the students’ category the following prizes will be awarded to the top 3 finalists:
• EU wide exposure through BIM-SPEED dissemination channels and networks of the umbrella organisations covering the widest professional coverage
• Presentation of their project during EUSEW2022 and/or Sustainable Places (Sept/Oct 2022).
• Mentorship on student’s thesis with UNStudio BIM experts (suitable for architects)
• Presentation of their project at UN Studio • Presentation of their project at REHVA Brussels Summit 2022

About BIM-SPEED
BIM-SPEED is developing a combination of methodologies and tools with one central information source at its core: The Building Information Model (BIM), which will be the catalyst for a smarter, more efficient method of deep renovation for the residential building sector. The mission of BIM-SPEED is to take ‘BIM for renovation of existing residential building stock’ to a deep renovation level of at least 60% energy saving, and to accelerate the BIM market uptake across the EU. BIM-SPEED aims to enable all stakeholders to adopt BIM to reduce the time of deep renovation projects by at least 30%.
