The ACE is saddened to learn of the passing away of Past President Jaume Duró

The Architects' Council of Europe is saddened to learn of the passing away of Spanish Architect Jaime Duró at the age of 79. He was a Past President of the International Union of Architects (UIA), the Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE), the Consejo Superior de los Colegios de Arquitectos de España (CSCAE) and past Dean of the Colegio de Arquitectos de Catalunya (COAC). 

Jaime Duró contributed significantly to advocating for architectural quality in Europe.In 2013, he received the CSCAE medal for his crucial role in the approval of the Ley de Ordenación de la Edificación (LOE), together with the former Minister of Public Works, Rafael Arias Salgado.

As an architect, his outstanding projects include the Juvenile Court in the Campus de la Justicia in Madrid, carried out together with Rafael de la Hoz; the AC Vilamarí hotels in Barcelona and the Front Marítim in Barcelona.

Among the numerous awards and distinctions he received are the FAD Award 1973, the Meeting Point Sustainable Architecture Award 2007, the Medal of Technological Merit and the Medal of Honour for Architecture (Lleida). He was an honorary member (letter M) of the World Academy of Science, Technology and Professional Training and an honorary member of various institutions, such as the Pan-American Federation of Architects, the Chilean Association of Architects, the Association of German Architects (BDA) and the Society of American Registered Architects, among others.
